Rhytidectomy, more commonly referred to as a Face Lift, is a cosmetic surgery procedure performed to rejuvenate the appearance of the face. The rhytidectomy incision is typically made from above and in front of the ear, extending down in front of the ear and around the earlobe, behind the ear and into the scalp inside of the hairline. Once the incision is made, the skin is lifted and the tissue is repositioned while excess skin is removed. In some cases, fat may be removed and the muscles under the chin may be tightened.
Lastly, everything is sutured closed. The rhytidectomy procedure usually takes around three to four hours to complete. After the surgery, patients are monitored for one to two hours in recovery. Dr. Joseph also requires that his patients stay the night after the procedure in either an aftercare facility or have a registered nurse monitor them for the first 24 hours.
